The match, held at Elgar Park, ended in a dramatic tie at 5-5, forcing the game into a shootout where Casey triumphed 3-1.

The standout performance came from goalkeeper Matthew Hollway, who made crucial saves to propel his team forward. Tristan Chaffey was a force on the field, scoring an impressive four goals during regulation time. Other contributors included Bryan Young, Elliot Stephens, Matthew Light, and Charlie Coster.

The Cannons will face Werribee Hockey Club in the preliminary final this Sunday, October 7, 2023, at Elgar Park, marking a critical moment for the team as they aim for glory.

In the Women’s Vic League (WVL1), the Cannons showcased their dominance with a 4-1 victory over Yarra Hockey Club. Key players Samantha Wagg, Charlotte Smith, Samantha Dobrich, and Mikaela Davis each scored, with Davis celebrating her 250th game for the club. The team is now gearing up for a crucial semi-final against Greensborough this Saturday, promising to be an exciting matchup.

Meanwhile, the WVL1 reserves faced a tough end to their season, losing to Melbourne University 2-1. Despite the setback, Courtney McDonald managed to score, and the team finished with a commendable record of 10 wins this season, placing them fourth overall.

In the Women’s Pennant E South competition, Casey Cannons were edged out by Southern United in a penalty shootout after a scoreless regulation time, continuing a highly competitive season against the top team. They are set for a preliminary final against Bayside Powerhouse this Sunday at Elgar Park.

Excitingly, all four junior teams from Casey had successful outings last weekend, with both Under-16 teams defeating MCC and the Under-12 teams overcoming Southern and Hawthorn respectively. The future looks bright as they prepare for their grand finals this weekend.

Stay tuned for further updates from the Casey Hockey Club as they make strides toward championship glory!
