Infinity Mining Identifies 263 Historical Gold Workings in Victoria

Infinity Mining has made a significant discovery at its Monkey Gully gold project in eastern Victoria, revealing a total of 263 historical mine workings through a state-of-the-art LiDAR survey. This advanced technology has identified a compelling new gold target located near the periphery of a Devonian intrusion, positioning the company to explore further for intrusion-related gold systems (IRGS).

The discovery of such a high number of historical workings suggests that prior miners invested considerable effort in the area. This historical investment often indicates a higher likelihood of precious metals being present, and there may still be substantial mineralisation that modern exploration techniques can uncover. The Monkey Gully project is one of four properties owned by Infinity in Victoria, a region known for its rich gold deposits.

Strategic Focus on Historical Workings

Monkey Gully lies approximately 40 kilometres east of the Sunday Creek gold project, owned by ASX-listed Southern Cross Gold, which has a market capitalisation of around $1.4 billion. It is also within 100 kilometres of Agnico Eagle’s renowned Fosterville high-grade underground gold mine. Management at Infinity Mining believes that the geological characteristics of Monkey Gully share similarities with those of Sunday Creek, particularly due to their proximity to Devonian intrusions within the Melbourne geological zone.

According to Infinity Mining’s management, the company will concentrate its efforts on areas within the project that exhibit a high density of historical workings. They plan to leverage modern exploration technologies to assess the potential for significant IRGS mineralisation at depth. Previous exploratory work in the area, including surface sampling and earlier drilling, has indicated anomalous levels of tin, tungsten, molybdenum, and gold mineralisation, aligning with IRGS pathfinder geochemistry. This enhances the overall prospectivity of the Monkey Gully project.

Advanced Technology in Mineral Exploration

The LiDAR aerial survey provides high-resolution imagery and a “bare earth” view of the terrain, effectively removing vegetation to expose underlying geological features. This light detection and ranging method employs a pulsed laser to measure distances to the earth, enabling detailed interpretation of structural trends believed to serve as potential pathways for gold mineralisation.

Among the 263 historical workings identified are 21 adits and 242 prospecting pits. The prevalence of these old workings exceeded initial expectations, transforming the site into a high-priority target for further exploration.

Additionally, Infinity Mining has recently defined new IRGS gold targets at its Tanjil Bren and Walhalla South projects, which also share similarities with the nearby Sunday Creek site. The company is committed to exploring these opportunities to expand its gold portfolio.

Infinity Mining is also advancing its Cangai copper project in northern New South Wales, which management believes is well-positioned for development, especially in a market environment characterised by rising copper and gold prices. With gold prices recently surpassing US$3,690 (approximately A$5,538) per ounce, Infinity has several promising projects to pursue.
