Urgent Appeal: Sunshine Op Shop Seeks Donations Amid Shortage

URGENT UPDATE: The Goss ’n’ Shop op shop in Sunshine is making an immediate appeal for donations as it faces a critical shortage of stock. Local residents are urged to contribute household items, clothing, kids’ toys, and more to support the community’s needs.

Manager Gail Tupua-Siliva highlighted the pressing situation, stating, “The donations are starting to wear thin, and people do come and buy because we are so cheap. I keep the prices very low. Most stuff in the shop, there’s nothing over $5.” This pricing strategy is designed to assist disadvantaged families in the area, with many visitors relying on affordable goods.

The shop is particularly in need of quality, clean, and undamaged household items such as cookware, utensils, towels, bedding, and small pieces of furniture. Ms. Tupua-Siliva emphasized, “We also help people that come in off the streets that don’t have shoes or anything; we give them shoes for free.” However, the op shop cannot accept stained, chipped, or damaged items, including electrical goods, prams, pushers, walkers, mattresses, cots, and car seats.

The Goss ’n’ Shop has been a staple in the community for 16 years and operates under the auspices of the Holy Apostles Anglican Church. It plays a vital role in providing affordable options for families in need, alongside support from organizations like Anglicare.

As demand for low-cost items rises, the op shop’s ability to serve the community hinges on the generosity of local donors. Ms. Tupua-Siliva’s commitment to keeping prices low is driven by a desire to prevent usable items from ending up in landfills while helping those who need it most.

Residents are encouraged to donate clean, usable items as soon as possible to ensure the shop can continue its mission of support. The community’s response is crucial, and immediate action can make a significant difference for those who rely on Goss ’n’ Shop.

For more information on how to donate, visit the Goss ’n’ Shop in Sunshine or contact the Holy Apostles Anglican Church directly. Donors can help turn the tide of this urgent need and make a positive impact on their community today.
