Major AWS Outage Disrupts Services for Millions Worldwide

UPDATE: A massive internet outage is currently wreaking havoc across multiple platforms, with significant disruptions traced back to Amazon Web Services (AWS). As of October 20, 2025, at 1:26 AM PDT, AWS has confirmed serious issues, including “increased error rates and latencies” for numerous services in the US-EAST-1 Region.

Users globally are reporting connectivity issues with popular services including Snapchat, Canva, Ring, Telstra, Steam, and even Amazon.com itself. The outage is affecting over 35 services, with many complaints surfacing on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter).

According to AWS’s status page, the company is actively investigating the situation. The latest updates indicate that engineers are working tirelessly to mitigate the issues and determine the root cause. As of 12:51 AM PDT, AWS acknowledged the problem, noting that customers may struggle to create or update support cases during this time.

“We are seeing widespread reports across the globe of services being down,” AWS stated in their notification. The situation is evolving quickly, with the next update anticipated by 2:00 AM PDT.

The outage highlights the fragility of internet infrastructure, reminding us how dependent we are on these services. Typically, AWS promises an impressive 99.999% uptime, translating to only a few minutes of downtime annually. This incident is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by cloud service providers and their customers alike.

For real-time updates, users are encouraged to monitor the AWS Service Health Dashboard and visit downdetector for information on affected services. As this situation develops, millions are left in limbo, awaiting a resolution to restore their essential online tools and services.

Stay tuned for further updates as AWS continues to address these critical issues affecting users worldwide.
