Progress is underway for a significant housing development in Bega, Australia, as Homes NSW partners with the Bega Valley Shire Council to transform the former TAFE site into a residential area. Plans indicate that approximately 97 new homes will be constructed on the site, which has been dormant since the TAFE campus closed in 2021.
Details of the Housing Project
The proposed development will consist of a mix of housing options. This includes 24 social homes designated for a seniors complex, eight affordable homes, and 67 private residences. Such diversity aims to address various housing needs within the community.
This week, Homes NSW provided a community update indicating that detailed draft designs for the project are expected to be available for public exhibition in the coming months. This exhibition will allow local residents to review the proposals and submit their feedback prior to the final decision and commencement of construction.
In a strategic move to enhance the project, Homes NSW has acquired an additional parcel of vacant land on East Street. This acquisition is expected to improve the overall design and introduce features that will benefit the local community. The organization stated, “This new land will allow us to enhance the design and create more features that benefit the local community.”
Infrastructure and Community Impact
Homes NSW is also working on formal subdivision planning, which includes essential infrastructure such as roads, footpaths, lighting, and services. Landscaping and individual housing lots will be part of the development, ensuring a well-planned residential area that meets community standards.
The TAFE campus’s closure in 2021 marked a pivotal moment for the site, and the ongoing development represents a significant step toward revitalizing the area. As planning progresses, Homes NSW is committed to keeping the community informed and engaged throughout the process.
