A Turkish restaurant in Fountain Valley, California, has been ordered to close following a health inspection that revealed multiple violations, including pest infestations. The Orange County Health Care Agency conducted the inspection at Halaloglu on September 17, 2025, where inspectors found both live and dead cockroaches throughout the establishment.
During the inspection, significant sanitation issues were noted. Inspectors discovered cockroaches on the floor near the cold-top reach-cooler and under the 3-compartment sink drainboard. Additionally, dead cockroaches were found in various locations, including behind the soda station and beneath cooking equipment. An egg case was also identified under the grill top.
Halaloglu was not only cited for pest issues but also for inadequate sanitation practices. The inspection report highlighted that not all food handlers possessed a valid California Food Handler Card at the time of the inspection. A large metal cart obstructed access to the handwash station, which is a critical requirement for food safety.
Sanitation and Compliance Issues
The health report indicated several other sanitation concerns. Old food residues were observed on the food presser and the unused deli slicer, while a green residue was noted inside the ice chute at the soda station. Accumulations of food debris were present in multiple areas, including beneath coolers and around the floor sink.
Inspectors also pointed out the absence of quaternary ammonium test strips, which are essential for ensuring proper sanitation. In total, the establishment was directed to seal cracks and crevices, eliminate clutter, and ensure compliance with labeling requirements for food containers.
Following these findings, health inspectors immediately suspended Halaloglu’s health permit, effectively closing the restaurant until further notice. The establishment must address all identified violations and provide a pest control report before a reinspection can be scheduled.
Next Steps for Halaloglu
To regain its operating status, Halaloglu must rectify the sanitation and pest control issues outlined in the inspection report. A pest control service must be completed, and a receipt must be available for review by the health department. Once all corrective actions are taken, the restaurant may request a reinspection by contacting the local health department.
This incident underscores the importance of maintaining health standards in food establishments to ensure public safety. Halaloglu’s closure serves as a reminder for all restaurants to adhere strictly to sanitation protocols and health regulations.
