In a recent meeting, Mayor Cr. Jodie Ashworth recognized the significant contributions of Dr. Patrick Kinsella as he prepares for his role as the Australia Day Ambassador for the upcoming 2026 Australia Day Awards. The ceremony will take place on January 21, 2026, at 5:30 PM at the Lakes Entrance Surf Life Saving Club. This event aims to celebrate individuals who have positively impacted the East Gippsland community.
Dr. Kinsella’s Impact on the Community
Dr. Kinsella, who has dedicated over 40 years to the East Gippsland region, is known for his multifaceted contributions to healthcare, education, sports, and the arts. His journey began when he joined Gippsland Lakes Complete Health in 1984, motivated by the area’s coastal lifestyle and the vision of an integrated Community Health Centre. Since then, he has played a crucial role in mentoring medical students and providing care at the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust.
Beyond his medical practice, Dr. Kinsella has been a driving force in enhancing the cultural and recreational landscape of East Gippsland. As a founding member of Radio East Gippsland (REG), he hosted popular radio programs that connected the community. Together with his wife, Wendy, he also established the Lakes Junior Soccer Club and contributed to the formation of the Nowa Nowa Men’s Choir.
A Celebration of Community Spirit
Mayor Ashworth highlighted Dr. Kinsella’s extensive impact, stating, “Those that know Dr. Kinsella may not realize just how wide his impact is. He has strengthened our region through healthcare, education, sport, media, and the arts. His story shows that one person can create lasting change for an entire community.” This sentiment underscores the values celebrated at the Australia Day Awards, which honor individuals who quietly contribute to the community.
The upcoming awards ceremony promises to be an engaging event, featuring Dr. Kinsella as the keynote speaker. Mayor Ashworth encourages residents to attend, stating, “Come along and celebrate all that so many people quietly contribute to our community, regardless of age or status—just everyday people making East Gippsland an even better place to live.” The event will include live entertainment and a free barbecue, aiming to foster community spirit and recognition of local achievements.
