Penn Medicine Recognized as One of the Most Wired Health Systems

Penn Medicine has been recognized as one of the “Most Wired” health care organizations for the 21st consecutive year, marking its 13th straight year on this prestigious list. This recognition, announced by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), highlights health systems that excel in using information technology to enhance care delivery.

This year, the “Digital Health Most Wired” list incorporated new criteria addressing the adoption of artificial intelligence, enhancements in cybersecurity, and improvements to patients’ digital experiences. Mitchell Schnall, MD, PhD, senior vice president for Data and Technology Solutions at the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), emphasized the growing importance of technology in health care. “Now, more than ever, health care organizations need to be on top of their game when it comes to the use and implementation of technology,” he stated.

Achieving a score of Level 8 out of 10 in both the Ambulatory Care and Acute Care categories reflects Penn Medicine’s commitment to maintaining high standards, even as evaluation criteria evolved. Additionally, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, evaluated separately due to operational distinctions, also attained Level 8 in both categories, consistent with its performance in 2024.

In a statement, Anna Schoenbaum, DNP, vice president of Application and Digital Health at UPHS, remarked on the significance of this recognition. “This year’s acknowledgment highlights how we are refining and improving our technology solutions to be among the best-in-class while also deepening our focus on innovation that improves patient and clinician experience,” she noted.

The “Most Wired” list is compiled annually based on surveys completed by health systems that assess their information technology infrastructure. This initiative aims to encourage health organizations to leverage technology effectively for the benefit of the communities they serve.

As health care continues to evolve, the integration of advanced technology plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality and efficiency of care. Penn Medicine’s continued recognition as a leader in this field is a testament to its dedication to innovation and excellence in patient care.
