United Way Glenelg has collaborated with Dartmoor Primary School to refresh the cherished community initiative known as the 25 Acts of Kindness. This program, which has been a staple in the Glenelg Shire community for the past five years, aims to promote acts of kindness in the lead-up to Christmas. The newly updated advent-style calendar encourages participation from individuals of all ages, allowing them to engage in simple yet impactful actions that foster connection, gratitude, and community spirit.
After five successful years, the initiative called for a fresh perspective. Students from Dartmoor Primary School took on the challenge of creating a new list of 25 acts of kindness, reflecting their unique understanding of caring for others. Beth Arthur, the school’s Mental Health & Wellbeing Leader, has been instrumental in guiding students through this creative process.
Local artist Robyn Carter from Yellow Cup Creative contributed by designing charming illustrations for each act, adding a visual appeal to the calendar. The completed version is set to be shared widely across the community, reinforcing the importance of kindness, especially during the festive season.
As December approaches, United Way Glenelg plans to unveil each daily act of kindness through its social media platforms. The organization encourages everyone in the community to participate and embrace the spirit of giving. This initiative not only aims to brighten the holiday season but also seeks to instill a lasting culture of kindness throughout Glenelg Shire.
During the project’s development, representatives from United Way Glenelg visited Dartmoor Primary School to capture each student’s reading of their respective acts of kindness. This personal touch adds a local flavor to the initiative, allowing the community to connect with the students’ heartfelt efforts.
Nicole Carr, the Executive Officer of United Way Glenelg, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This initiative showcases how insightful and generous young people can be. Their ideas will help shape a lovely resource that encourages families and individuals across our community to embrace kindness in small, meaningful ways.”
Echoing this sentiment, Beth Arthur noted the school’s excitement in participating. “Our students loved helping with the acts of kindness calendar. This gives them a chance to think creatively about the small actions that can make a big difference. It’s a lovely way for them to contribute to something the whole community can use,” she said.
The calendar will be available for download on the United Way Glenelg website, as well as through its social media channels. By sharing these acts of kindness, the initiative aims to inspire a communal effort to enhance the spirit of kindness during the holiday season and beyond.
