Anastacia Encourages Cancer and Crohn’s Patients to Embrace ‘Good Days’

Anastacia, the acclaimed pop star, is advocating for individuals battling cancer and Crohn’s disease to cherish their “good days.” The 56-year-old singer, who has faced her own health challenges, including two breast cancer diagnoses in 2003 and 2013, aims to offer encouragement and insight drawn from her experiences.

In a recent interview with OK! magazine, Anastacia emphasized the importance of living in the moment, stating, “I want to help people know that even if you have cancer, Crohn’s disease… the more you let it occupy your thoughts on a regular basis, you are not living in the moment.” She believes that allowing oneself to experience good days without guilt can significantly impact mental health.

Anastacia’s journey with health issues began in her teenage years when she was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. Following her second cancer diagnosis, she established the Anastacia Fund, which aims to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer, particularly among young women. “I will do it forever,” she affirmed, showcasing her commitment to the cause.

The singer also shared her frustrations regarding the medical community’s approach to women’s health. On the Turning Point podcast, she expressed feelings of betrayal when doctors failed to provide definitive answers about her health, often dismissing her concerns due to a lack of genetic history.

“I felt so betrayed by medicine,” she explained. “When I say that I mean how doctors approach you as a woman is – do you have breast cancer in your family? And I go ‘Mum?’ No, we don’t. Ok great.” Anastacia highlighted the statistics revealing that approximately 70% of women diagnosed with breast cancer do not have a genetic predisposition. She argued that this fact should prompt more attention and research into non-genetic factors influencing the disease.

Anastacia’s advocacy extends beyond her personal experiences. She encourages others to accept both good and bad days as part of their journey. “If the bad day comes, don’t shun it – it probably needs to happen,” she advised, underscoring the importance of acknowledging the emotional complexity of living with chronic illness.

Through her work and public statements, Anastacia continues to inspire countless individuals facing similar challenges. Her message of hope and resilience resonates deeply, reminding those affected by cancer and Crohn’s disease that they are not alone in their struggles.
