Fashion Designer Mark Patrick Dies at 73, Remembered Fondly

Renowned fashion designer and celebrity agent Mark Patrick has passed away at the age of 73. Based in Sydney, Patrick was a prominent figure in the fashion and entertainment industries, known for his vibrant contributions and creative spirit.

Legacy of Creativity and Influence

Patrick’s career began in 1977 when he partnered with the late Geoffrey Williams to create the iconic Mark & Geoffrey label. They opened a retail store in Sydney in the early 1980s, quickly gaining acclaim for their distinctive designs. The duo’s work was recognized internationally, with The Age calling Mark & Geoffrey “the first truly international Australian fashion label,” reaching customers in over 30 countries.

Throughout his career, Patrick also established the MP publicity agency, which represented high-profile clients, including the prestigious French champagne brand, Moet & Chandon. He became well-known for running the exclusive Moet and Chandon marquee during the Melbourne Cup, a highly coveted venue that attracted Victoria’s elite.

His impact extended beyond fashion, touching lives across various sectors, including media, sports, and politics. The news of his passing prompted an outpouring of tributes on social media from those who knew him and were influenced by his work.

Tributes from Friends and Colleagues

Modeling agent Yvonne Tozzi shared heartfelt memories of Patrick on Facebook, writing, “Time passes but the memories linger, oh the fun we had… how we all looked forward to walking in your shows, strutting down the runway in Mark & Geoffrey designs… you were pure joy. RIP.” Her sentiments echoed the feelings of many who celebrated his life and contributions.

In 2016, after decades in the fashion scene, Patrick shifted his focus to homewares, opening the BORN homewares store (Born Again Refurbished New) in Kincumber on the NSW Central Coast. He continued to make his mark in the industry until his retirement in 2022, leaving a lasting legacy behind.

Mark Patrick’s death has left a significant void in the fashion community and beyond, marking the end of an era for those who admired his creativity and spirit. His memory will undoubtedly live on through the countless lives he touched during his remarkable career.
