Queensland police have charged two more men with murder related to an alleged kidnapping and assault that occurred earlier this year in Brisbane. This brings the total number of individuals charged to five in connection with the death of a 52-year-old man, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed.
The incident is reported to have taken place on the evening of January 5, 2023, near Rudyard Street in Inala, located in the city’s south-west. According to police, the 52-year-old man and two others were taken against their will and threatened with violence by the alleged offenders. Detective Inspector Chris Knight stated that the group was subsequently transported to another location where they endured further violence over several hours before being returned to their vehicle.
Upon their return, the 52-year-old was taken to Logan Hospital in the early hours of January 6, 2023, presenting with significant head injuries. Despite being transferred to a specialist care facility, he succumbed to his injuries and died on January 7, 2023.
Initially, in January, police charged a 31-year-old man from Birkdale and a 32-year-old man from Griffin with several serious offenses, including murder, grievous bodily harm, armed robbery, kidnapping, and torture. In May, a 26-year-old man from Cleveland was also charged with murder and 17 additional offenses, including armed robbery and trafficking dangerous drugs.
The latest arrests involved two men aged 26 and 29, who were taken into custody on August 3. Both have been charged with murder, kidnapping, torture, and grievous bodily harm. They are expected to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court shortly.
In a statement, Detective Inspector Knight underscored the thorough investigative efforts that led to these recent arrests. He described them as the result of “exhaustive forensic examination, intelligence gathering, and coordinated efforts” by specialist police units. While authorities do not anticipate further involvement from additional suspects, they have released new images in hopes of gathering more information from the public.
The investigation remains active, and police continue to seek assistance from anyone with knowledge of the incident.
