The Mount Gambier Golf Club recently hosted a competitive day of golf, where Di O’Donnell and Marie Douglas emerged victorious despite challenging windy conditions. The duo, playing with a combined handicap of 12, posted an impressive score of 80 gross, which translated to a net score of 68 after adjustments. Their strong performance was highlighted by birdies on the first and third holes and a solid showing with nine pars on their scorecard.
In second place were Libby Altschwager and Andrea Pegler, who also performed admirably with a score of 80 gross and a net score of 70, utilizing their handicap of 13. This pair recorded a birdie on the third hole, along with seven pars, contributing to their strong finish. The competition saw a total of eighteen balls awarded to players who achieved birdies, with the third hole proving particularly popular among participants.
Specialty Prizes and Notable Performances
Awards for specialty achievements were also given out during the event. Linda Boylan took home the prize for nearest the pin on the par 3 eighth hole, showcasing her precision on the course. Long drive accolades were claimed by players across different grades: Jess Parsons in A Grade, Helen McIntyre in B Grade, and Deb Fowler in C Grade, each demonstrating exceptional power and accuracy on the par 4 ninth hole.
On November 29, another stableford competition unfolded at the Mount Gambier Golf Club, which provided a favorable playing environment with pristine course conditions. Vicki Clark, competing with a handicap of 27, secured first place with an outstanding score of 40 points. Her performance was marked by a remarkable five-point scoring opportunity on the seventh hole, complemented by birdies on the fifth and fifteenth holes.
Penne Saffin followed closely in second place, playing one under her handicap to finish with a total of 37 points. Her consistent play was evidenced by eight three-point scores throughout her round, including a solid distribution of 16 points on the front nine and 21 points on the back nine.
These competitions not only showcased individual talent but also fostered a sense of community and sportsmanship among the players at Mount Gambier Golf Club. The dedication and skill displayed by all participants contributed to a successful day of golf.
