Bega Valley Community Halls to Receive Urgent Upgrades in 2025

URGENT UPDATE: The Bega Valley Shire Council has just announced a significant upgrade initiative for community halls, with $150,000 allocated for essential renovations in 2025. Only four out of the 18 community halls will receive these critical improvements aimed at preserving heritage and enhancing facilities. Is your local hall one of the lucky four?

The upgrades come as part of an annual program developed in collaboration with local hall committees, ensuring that funding is directed towards the most pressing needs identified by those who use these cherished spaces. Among the halls set for upgrades are Murrah Hall, which will undergo deck repairs, Rocky Hall, which will receive a new deck, Brogo Hall, which will have additional lighting installed, and Quaama, where gutter replacement is planned.

Gabrielle Ward, the council’s halls and cemeteries officer, emphasized the importance of community input in these decisions. “Hall committees are the eyes and ears on the ground, helping us prioritize works and often volunteering their time for upkeep,” she stated.

These community halls serve as vital hubs for social, cultural, and recreational activities across the Bega Valley, hosting markets, concerts, meetings, and weddings. “They play an essential role in fostering connection and belonging,” Ms. Ward added.

In addition to the hall upgrades, the Bega Valley Shire Council is seeking community feedback on 14 council policies, with submissions accepted until October 2, 2023. This review aims to enhance transparency and ensure that council policies meet community expectations.

CEO Anthony McMahon highlighted the importance of this review, noting that it offers an opportunity for community members to voice their opinions on how decisions are made within the council. “We want to ensure clear communication and effective governance,” he mentioned.

The council is also conducting essential road works from August 25 to October 3, 2023, which will involve surface stabilisation between Bermagui River Bridge and Posidonia Esplanade. These works will improve road safety and longevity but may cause delays due to changed traffic conditions, including reduced speed limits and intermittent lane closures.

Residents are advised to stay informed and engage with the council’s initiatives to ensure their voices are heard. The upgrades to the community halls and the ongoing road works underscore the council’s commitment to improving the Bega Valley’s infrastructure and community engagement.

Stay tuned for more updates on these developments, and don’t miss the chance to provide your feedback by October 2, 2023. Share this news with your community to spread awareness about the upcoming changes!
