This decisive win at the Huntly Recreation Reserve not only clinches the championship but also erases the disappointment of previous grand final losses in 2023 and 2024.
The Grasshoppers dominated the match, showcasing their prowess by maintaining a lead throughout all four quarters. After a competitive start, where Mount Pleasant trailed by just three goals at 15-12 in the first quarter, Colbinabbin surged ahead, extending their lead to ten goals by halftime at 31-21.
As the game progressed, Colbinabbin’s relentless pressure overwhelmed their opponents, outscoring Mount Pleasant 20-9 in the third quarter and finishing strong in the final quarter with a 10-goal margin. Coach Jen McIntyre expressed her pride in the team’s performance, urging them to reach the 70-goal mark by the end.
In a moment of reflection, McIntyre stated, “The hunger burned pretty deeply after our previous losses. We’ve played together for a long time, focusing on our strengths and making necessary tweaks.” The victory is particularly gratifying for the young squad, whose key player, Matilda McIntyre, was awarded best on court.
