URGENT UPDATE: A community planting event is set to take place tomorrow, November 13, 2023, at Naughtons Gap, from 8:30 AM to noon. Volunteers are invited to join the Border Ranges – Richmond Valley Landcare Network in a vital effort to enhance the environment along the Casino to Bentley Rail Trail.
The initiative aims to plant an additional 500 trees and native grasses, following the successful planting of 700 trees in the past year. Emma Stone, Landcare Coordinator, confirmed that the event is proceeding after a previous postponement due to dry conditions. “The momentum is continuing, and we are ready to roll with the next round of planting,” she stated.
This event is more than just planting; it represents a commitment to sustainability and community involvement. “We would love to have you involved!” Stone encourages all who cherish the rail trail to participate. The planting zone is easily accessible with a 600-meter walk from the designated parking area on the north side of the bridge along Naughtons Gap Road.
Participants are advised to bring their own drinking water, hats, gloves, long pants, and closed boots. No tools are necessary as organizers will prepare the planting holes. Morning tea will be provided, so registration is encouraged to ensure adequate refreshments for all attendees.
Stone reassured potential volunteers that the event will continue in mild wet weather. However, should heavy rain or extreme heat arise, the event will be rescheduled.
This is a fantastic opportunity for community members to come together and make a tangible impact on their local environment. Don’t miss out on this chance to contribute to the beautification and sustainability of the Naughtons Gap area.
