Greenvale Reservoir Park Transformation Begins: New Green Space Set for 2025

UPDATE: Melbourne Water and Parks Victoria have just announced the transformation of the southern section of Greenvale Reservoir Park, launching an exciting initiative to create a vibrant new green space for the community. The project, which commenced in April 2023, aims to provide residents and visitors with enhanced opportunities to enjoy the outdoors close to home.

Landscaping works are already underway, and construction on new and upgraded walking trails, barbecues, and visitor amenities is in full swing. The revamped park is scheduled to reopen in late 2025, promising to make areas previously inaccessible to the public available for exploration and enjoyment.

Sean Hanrahan, acting executive general manager of service and asset lifecycle at Melbourne Water, emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “Access to green space is so important for mental health, general wellbeing, and as a place for people to come together.” He highlighted the commitment to developing public green spaces around reservoirs to support community needs.

The improvements not only aim to enhance community wellbeing but also to bolster the reservoir’s critical role in supplying safe drinking water to Melbourne’s north-western and western suburbs. Craig Bray, Western Melbourne district manager for Parks Victoria, expressed enthusiasm for the project, calling the new pedestrian access points and upgraded facilities a “fantastic asset for the community.”

In addition to enhancing recreational spaces, Melbourne Water is replacing the aging perimeter fence around the reservoir. This upgrade is crucial for safeguarding water security while facilitating public access to the southern section of the park.

The northern section of Greenvale Reservoir Park has long served as a cherished outdoor area for locals. With the impending reopening of the southern section, the amount of accessible green space is expected to expand significantly, catering to the needs of a growing community.

Stay tuned for more developments on this urgent community enhancement!
