BREAKING: A 16-year-old boy from Griffith has been arrested following a series of alarming vehicle thefts and break-ins, according to the Murrumbidgee Police District. Authorities confirmed the teen faces multiple charges, including aggravated break and enter and theft, stemming from incidents that took place over the last month.
Police launched Operation Regional Mongoose to tackle a troubling rise in property crimes attributed mainly to young offenders. Investigations revealed a pattern of thefts targeting local businesses and vehicles, culminating in a swift police response.
The first major incident occurred around 3:00 AM on August 16, when three individuals allegedly broke into a business on Kooyoo Street, stealing cash before fleeing in a stolen 2006 gold Kia Carnival. That vehicle was later discovered set ablaze, raising concerns about escalating crime in the area.
A second break-in took place shortly before 1:00 AM on August 22 at an auto business on Farronato Road. Again, three suspects reportedly made off with the keys to several vehicles, including a 2020 white Ford Ranger utility, which was also found burned.
The final incident under investigation involved a break-and-enter at a dental surgery on Noorebar Avenue around 10:00 AM on August 24. Police noted that CCTV footage captured three individuals inside the premises, further solidifying their investigation.
Following extensive inquiries, police arrested the teenager at a Griffith residence around 9:30 AM on October 9. He was taken to the Griffith Police Station and charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of aggravated break and enter, stealing a motor vehicle, and damage to property by fire. He has been denied bail and is set to appear in children’s court on October 10.
