UPDATE: A gunman has been arrested following a shocking home invasion in Thurgoona, Australia, where he shot a man after demanding cash. The incident unfolded on November 2, 2023, at approximately 3:03 PM as the suspect, identified as Shannon Lee Bush, targeted the home of Jorja Chung and her partner, Ali Kanjo.
Bush, who traveled from Queensland to Albury, placed a tracking device on Chung’s vehicle before the violent encounter. Surveillance footage captured him changing clothes and arming himself with a pistol as he approached the residence. The situation escalated when Chung returned home, only to find Bush waiting with a gun.
Chung’s panic was palpable as she witnessed Bush demand, “Give me your phone, your purse and the keys to the car.” Despite her fear, she managed to hide $1,300 in cash inside the couch, ultimately surrendering $930 to Bush in a desperate plea, “Take my money, please leave us alone.”
The situation intensified when Kanjo confronted Bush, leading to a physical struggle. Kanjo threw two punches at Bush, causing the gun to discharge and injure Kanjo in the hand. As chaos erupted, Chung fled the home to alert neighbors while Kanjo escaped to a nearby church, both narrowly avoiding further violence.
Authorities received the emergency call and swiftly mobilized. Bush fled the scene, only to be apprehended more than 1,000 kilometers away in Macksville the following day. Police discovered an unregistered firearm in his vehicle, along with the stolen cash.
Initially charged with attempted murder, Bush pleaded guilty to lesser charges, including armed robbery and discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. His case has been adjourned to February 2, 2024, for further proceedings.
This alarming incident highlights the rising concerns over safety in residential areas. Local residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. As this story develops, updates will be provided.
