UPDATE: Naracoorte’s own Peter Anderson is making headlines as he prepares to represent Australia at the prestigious IKO Matsushima World Karate Championships in Maebashi, Japan, on November 29-30, 2025.
In a remarkable achievement, Peter has been selected as a judge for this significant international event, marking a pivotal moment in his martial arts career. “It’s a huge step in my karate journey and I’m really honoured to be a part of it,” he stated, expressing his excitement and nerves about the upcoming role.
This selection not only highlights Peter’s dedication to karate but also puts Naracoorte on the global martial arts map, inspiring local athletes to pursue their dreams. Peter emphasized the importance of hard work, stating, “Perseverance and hard work pays off but you have to be willing to do the work.”
As a seasoned karate practitioner and respected instructor, Peter has been judging at regional, state, and national events for several years. His selection for the world championships comes after fulfilling specific criteria set by the organizers, showcasing his commitment to expanding his knowledge and skills.
“I was just really excited to be selected but also a little nervous at the same time,” said Peter about receiving the official confirmation.
The IKO Matsushima World Tournament will feature a rigorous judging panel, with each match requiring four corner judges and a center referee. Peter is proud to be part of a team representing South Australia, which includes fighters, branch chiefs, officials, and coaches.
