BREAKING NEWS: The Caroline Springs Lakers have just announced a game-changing signing for the 2025 Western Netball League. Former Melbourne Vixen star Rahni Samason will join the Lakers next season, marking one of the largest signings in league history. This move is not just a win for the club but a significant boost for the league as a whole.
Samason, known for her exceptional shooting skills and composure under pressure, is set to make an immediate impact. Lakers netball coordinator Nadine Oborne expressed her excitement, stating, “We’ve gone big this year. It’s very exciting.” She emphasized that Samason’s presence will not only strengthen the senior team but also inspire young players in their robust junior program.
The Lakers are committed to building a pathway between junior and senior levels, and Samason’s signing reflects this ambition. Oborne noted that a family connection drew Samason to the club. “She didn’t hesitate,” she said, after Samason participated in a clinic at the club months ago and felt a strong connection with both juniors and seniors.
In addition to Samason, the Lakers have also secured the signing of Charlize Bellette, who made her debut last season with the Melbourne Mavericks. Bellette, now part of the under-19 Victorian squad, is expected to benefit greatly from playing alongside Samason in the goal circle. “To play with someone in the circle with Rahni’s experience will help her game,” Oborne added.
Last season, the Lakers boasted five teams, with all but one making the finals. Their division 1 team claimed the minor premiership but narrowly missed out on the grand final. Oborne is focused on continuing to develop talent from the junior ranks, with hopes that this will lead to future premiership success. “We have got so much talent coming through we will only get stronger,” she stated.
Pre-season preparations are already underway for the Lakers. After witnessing strong turnout at trials, the club is considering whether to enter five or six teams next season. They are also exploring the possibility of adding a men’s side to their roster. “It’s a new chapter for Lakers netball,” Oborne confirmed, highlighting the excitement surrounding recent developments.
With pre-season in full swing, the community is eager to see how these significant changes will unfold. The Lakers aim to capitalize on their growing talent pool as they look forward to an exhilarating new season ahead. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops!
