URGENT UPDATE: The South Gisborne Tennis Club is gearing up for a major milestone celebration as it marks 25 years of its groundbreaking All Abilities program. This vibrant event will take place on November 27, 2023, from 10 AM to 1 PM, coinciding with the International Day of People with Disability.
This celebrated program is designed to make tennis accessible for individuals with disabilities, including those with low or no vision, hearing impairments, and wheelchair users. The community is invited to join in the fun, with a day filled with tennis-related games, opportunities to try pickleball, and even a chance to beat the coach. All necessary equipment will be provided.
Gail Scott, the All Abilities coordinator, emphasized the importance of community involvement. “There’ll be adaptive equipment like eye gear, if you want to know what it’s like to be partially blind and play tennis,” she stated. This unique experience aims to foster understanding of the challenges faced by players with disabilities.
Local groups such as Distinctive Options, Sunbury and Macedon Ranges Specialist School, and Mambourin from Melton will participate, highlighting the program’s far-reaching impact. “It’s just a wonderful thing to have as part of your club because that’s what community clubs should do,” Ms. Scott added.
The celebration will take place at the club’s location: 176 Millett Road, South Gisborne. For more information about this exciting event or the All Abilities program, interested parties can contact Gail Scott directly at 0403 760 272.
