BREAKING NEWS: Legendary rugby league administrator Warren Smith has passed away at the age of 86. The long-serving President of St Marys Rugby League Club died earlier today, leaving a profound legacy that will impact the club and community for generations.

Warren Smith began his journey with the club in 1985 as Secretary of the St Marys Junior Rugby League Committee. At that time, the Club had only 14 teams and no sponsors. Under his leadership, the junior league exploded in popularity, growing to 56 teams competing in the Penrith and District Competition by the time he stepped down from the Board of Directors.
Smith’s influence extended beyond the field, where he spearheaded significant developments, including the creation of St Marys Leagues Stadium, the Holiday Inn Sydney St Marys, and the recent Western Foyer and Saints Event Centre. His vision transformed the club’s future, solidifying its role as a cornerstone of the community.
Smith’s remarkable contributions to sports were recognized with numerous awards, including Life Membership in 1999. He received prestigious honors such as the Australian Sports Medal, NSW Rugby League Volunteer of the Year, and the Sports NSW Distinguished Long Service Award. His most esteemed recognition came in 2017 when he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
