URGENT UPDATE: The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has just announced key leadership positions as it gears up for its monumental 50th anniversary in 2028. Co-chairs Kathy Pavlich and Mits Delisle will continue to lead the organization, alongside new Treasurer Wendy Maloney, reinforcing a strong leadership team during this pivotal planning phase.
In a significant show of community engagement, the organization confirmed the election of four new Directors following an impressive turnout of 1,627 votes at the Annual General Meeting held in late November. New Directors Luna Choo, Savanna Peake, Jarrod Lomas, and returning Co-chair Kathy Pavlich will join the ongoing leadership of Mits Delisle, Damien Nguyen, and Diana McManus for the 2025-2026 term.
Kathy Pavlich expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are honoured to continue serving as Co-Chairs and to work alongside a Board that reflects the depth and diversity of our communities. This is an important moment for Mardi Gras as we strengthen our foundations and prepare for our 50th anniversary.”
Chief Executive Officer Jesse Matheson, who recently transitioned from an interim role, emphasized the importance of the newly elected Board, stating, “We congratulate all newly elected Directors and thank every candidate who stood for election. Their experience and commitment will help guide Mardi Gras through a significant period of planning and growth.”
The upcoming 2026 Festival is set to take place from February 13 to March 1, with details about major events still pending due to the Bondi terrorist attack, which has caused delays in announcements.
As the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras embarks on this crucial journey towards its 50th anniversary, the organization is focused on enhancing community engagement and ensuring the festival reflects the pride and aspirations of its diverse supporters.
