URGENT UPDATE: The highly anticipated T20 competition of the Western Suburbs Churches and Community Cricket Association has officially launched, featuring an impressive lineup of 24 teams split into four competitive divisions. The excitement kicked off last night, with teams vying for early dominance in their respective matches.
In the premier division, the Clenzo Group Shield, Tarneit Central, Williams Landing, and Glen Orden Thunder each secured vital victories on the opening night. At Goddard Street Reserve, Tarneit Central cruised past Manor Lakes, dismissing them for just 122 runs in the 18th over. Standout performer Asim Mehmood top-scored with 30 runs as three Tarneit bowlers each took two wickets.
Tarneit Central’s batting lineup was unstoppable, needing only 10.1 overs to chase down the target, finishing at 2-124. Star batsman Vishesh Malhotra electrified the crowd with a rapid 70 not out off just 36 balls, featuring an impressive 12 fours.
Meanwhile, Williams Landing displayed sheer dominance against Truganina United, amassing a staggering 249 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Lovepreet Singh led the charge with a blistering 53 runs off just 29 balls. Truganina United struggled in response, bowled out for 113 runs in the 18th over, with Bhumil Patel providing some resistance with a commendable 60 runs.
In another thrilling match, Glen Orden Thunder defeated Altona Sports, chasing down their target of 142 runs. Altona posted 6-141, with Dutch international Scott Edwards scoring 64 runs off 46 balls. The Thunder’s bowlers Gurpreet Singh and Abhishek Balarammahanti each claimed two wickets, while Jagmeet Brar anchored the chase with 50 runs and Balarammahanti finished with an unbeaten 33.
In division two, the Truganina Strikers, Altona Sports, and AATCC Legends emerged victorious. The third division saw wins for Brimbank Strikers and Seabrook, while in division four, Yarraville Club and Manor Lakes shone brightly.
