Urgent Fire Destroys Shed, Damages Solar Panels in North Wangaratta

A significant fire erupted at a property in North Wangaratta, severely damaging a shed and several solar panels. Emergency services, including the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Fire Rescue Victoria, were dispatched to the incident on Grossman Drive at 10:55 PM on October 19, 2023.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the shed engulfed in flames. A CFA spokesman reported, “Upon arrival, crews found a shed fully involved with fire. Several solar panels on the roof of the shed were also alight.” The situation escalated quickly, prompting a rapid response to prevent further damage.

Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly two hours, successfully bringing it under control by 11:16 PM. The site was declared safe at 12:49 AM. Authorities confirmed that the fire is not being treated as suspicious; however, the exact cause remains under investigation.

Police were also present at the scene to assist with the aftermath. This incident follows an unrelated fire on October 16, when firefighters prevented a truck fire from spreading to a shed at a property in Norong, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by local fire services.

The North Wangaratta fire serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of rural property fires. As investigations continue, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

Stay tuned for further updates as officials work to determine the cause of this devastating fire.
