Urgent: High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash, Two Arrested in Bathurst

BREAKING: Two individuals have been arrested following a dramatic high-speed chase that culminated in a crash on a suburban street in West Bathurst last night. The incident unfolded at approximately 9:15 PM on August 3, 2023, when officers from the Chifley Police District attempted to pull over a Volkswagen sedan on Boyd Street.

According to police reports, the driver failed to stop, prompting authorities to initiate a pursuit. As the chase progressed, officers deployed road spikes, successfully puncturing one of the sedan’s tires. The chase continued until the vehicle crashed into a bush on Green Street, where both the driver and a passenger attempted to flee on foot.

Police quickly apprehended the suspects nearby. The driver, a 40-year-old man, and the passenger, a 28-year-old woman, were subsequently taken into custody and transported to Bathurst Police Station for processing.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing. They are urging anyone who witnessed the chase or who may have dash cam footage to come forward. Witnesses can contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 to provide information.

This alarming incident highlights the dangers surrounding police pursuits and raises questions about the safety of community streets. As investigations continue, residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
