UPDATE: Major disruptions are set to hit Melton’s rail services as construction crews commence around-the-clock work this weekend. From 7 AM on Saturday, October 11, to 7 PM on Sunday, October 12, extensive construction will take place in the rail corridor, leading to significant changes in train services and increased noise and traffic in the area.
The construction involves the removal of four level crossings and the development of the new Melton Station. Residents and commuters should brace for heightened noise levels, traffic congestion, and increased movements of construction vehicles in the vicinity. Authorities have warned that the construction will not only impact daytime services but also includes out-of-hours deliveries from midnight to 6 AM on various nights between October 15 and October 31.
During the weekend of October 11-12, crews will focus on critical tasks, including installing track drainage, completing works at Platform 2 of Melton Station, building new rail bridges, and executing essential signaling works. In particular, work will take place from 7 AM to 7 PM both days in the corridor west of Coburns Road, along with additional activities from Coburns Road to Toolern Creek.
The service changes will also affect the Ballarat, Ararat, and Maryborough lines, with disruptions expected from 9 PM on Friday, October 10, until the last service on Sunday, October 12. Commuters are advised to check their travel plans ahead of time, as authorities anticipate an influx of construction-related truck movements and workers in the area.
In response to these disruptions, traffic management measures and signage will be implemented to ensure access to homes and businesses remains open. However, residents should prepare for additional lighting and noise during night deliveries, as well as dust, which crews will work to minimize with watercarts.

This construction project marks a significant step towards improving transportation infrastructure in Melton, but it will undoubtedly impact daily life for many. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
