UPDATE: A 34-year-old man has been arrested after leading police on a dramatic chase, culminating in a crash at Lake Macquarie late on November 9, 2023. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was involved in a previous domestic violence incident, raising serious concerns about public safety.
Police were patrolling Main Road at Speers Point shortly after 9 PM when they attempted to stop a vehicle that was seen driving erratically without headlights. The vehicle briefly halted before accelerating away, prompting a police pursuit. However, the chase was called off shortly thereafter when officers lost sight of the suspect’s car.
In a swift turn of events, police later located the vehicle after it had collided with another car on Morse Street. Witnesses reported seeing the man appearing visibly wet, suggesting he may have entered the lake during the pursuit. Officers apprehended him nearby and transported him to Toronto Police Station.
Upon further investigation, police discovered that the 34-year-old suspect faced multiple charges related to domestic violence. These include two counts of contravening an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO), two counts of stalking or intimidating, and charges for damaging property and leading police on a pursuit.
