URGENT UPDATE: Police in Bendigo are investigating a fire suspected to be deliberately lit in the Kennington area. The incident occurred around 1:20 PM on December 7, prompting immediate action from firefighters and local authorities.
According to Sergeant Mick McCrann of the Bendigo Police, the fire was reported near a creek on Bramley Close. “We believe young people may have ignited the fire and left the area,” he stated. Fortunately, there have been no injuries or property damage reported as a result of the blaze.
The situation escalated quickly, with VicEmergency declaring the fire safe by 1:57 PM. As part of their response, police secured traffic management points and deployed a police aircraft to monitor the area.
Sergeant McCrann warned about the potential risks of wildfires as the region approaches a challenging fire season. “A big fire season is coming up—the last thing we need is deliberately lit fires,” he emphasized.
