UPDATE: The Werribee Bees secured a thrilling victory over the Keilor Bulls in the opening round of the Bowls Victoria weekend pennant, division 2, section 1 competition on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Chirnside Park. This win marks a significant moment for the Bees, who have sought revenge after the Bulls ended their championship hopes last season.
Werribee triumphed with an overall score of 80 (14)-67 (4), showcasing remarkable teamwork despite offseason changes. The Bees’ success was highlighted by Gavin Joyce‘s rink winning 14-10 and Robert Panton‘s commanding 32-18 victory. In contrast, Robert Smith‘s rink fell short at 19-16 and Ian Milledge‘s rink lost 20-18.
Joyce, a director for the Bees, expressed confidence in the team’s strength ahead of the season opener. The Bees are fielding five teams in the weekend pennant and five midweek sides this season, showing their commitment to fostering talent among newer bowlers while leveraging the experience of established players. Joyce emphasized the importance of player development for their success in the 2025-26 season.
