Thief Steals $1 Million Ferrari Among Luxury Cars in Melbourne

Victorian Police are seeking public assistance following the theft of four luxury vehicles, including a $1 million Ferrari, from a residence in the Melbourne suburb of Balwyn North. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 15, 2023, when a thief managed to enter a property on Greythorn Road around 01:30.

Once inside, the suspect stole four sets of car keys, a wallet, and a pair of AirPods. Over a span of three hours, he methodically took each vehicle from the garage and carport while the family inside remained unaware. The police report indicates that the stolen vehicles included a Ferrari 488 Pista and a BMW, among others.

The stolen Ferrari, noted for its distinctive black and white body stripe, is one of a limited number of such models that have arrived in Australia since mid-2019. It originally retailed at approximately $645,000 before additional on-road costs. The BMW, which was also stolen during the incident, had a starting price of $177,500 when it was first introduced to the Australian market in early 2023.

Police Investigate and Seek Public Assistance

Victorian authorities have released images and CCTV footage of a man they believe could assist with their investigation. All four stolen vehicles remain unaccounted for, making this a high-priority case for the Boroondara Crime Investigation Unit. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and report to Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential online report.

The audacity of the theft has raised concerns among local residents about security measures for luxury vehicles. With the Ferrari being highly visible due to its unique appearance, detectives hope that the public can help locate it and the other stolen cars swiftly.

As the investigation continues, the police remain committed to recovering the stolen items and bringing the perpetrator to justice. The theft of high-value vehicles not only affects the immediate victims but also sends ripples through the community, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and enhanced security measures.
