2,500 Students Set to Dazzle at Victorian State School Spectacular

URGENT UPDATE: In just a few days, students from the Whittlesea area will step onto the stage for the highly anticipated 2025 Victorian State School Spectacular (VSSS). The shows are set for Saturday, September 13, at 1:00 PM and 6:30 PM at John Cain Arena, where 2,500 Victorian students from 200 government schools will showcase their extraordinary talents.

These young performers have embarked on a remarkable seven-month creative journey, culminating in a spectacular display of talent as circus artists, musicians, singers, and dancers. Behind the scenes, students are also taking on vital roles in stage management, audio, lighting, vision, costumes, and production, making this an all-encompassing event for budding creatives.

Among the standout performers is Amelia from Lalor Secondary College, who has participated for three years and is now stepping into the spotlight as a principal dancer in her final year of school. “It’s always an amazing experience being part of something so special,” she expressed. “I’m excited to learn new skills and techniques from the industry professionals.”

Fellow student Annalise, also from Lalor Secondary College, is returning for her third consecutive year as rehearsal stage manager. “The Victorian State School Spectacular would be the highlight production that I’ve been involved in because of the scale of it,” she remarked, highlighting the unique opportunity this event provides for students.

From Mill Park Secondary College, Honey, a Year 12 student, is taking on the role of rehearsal stage manager after participating in the mass dance in 2019. “I’m excited to navigate the pressure of stage management in order to build my skill in problem-solving,” she stated. “I love to hear from professionals about their choice of pathways, combined with their experience backstage when they were my age. I’d love to pursue a career in stage and event management.”

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the VSSS, featuring an impressive lineup of 42 musical items. The selections include contributions from students, with music from renowned artists such as Sheppard, Max Richter, Queen, and Gotye. Additionally, the orchestra will perform original music specially commissioned from Kai Chen Lim.

As the excitement builds, this annual event not only showcases the immense talent of students but also serves as a platform for them to gain valuable industry experience. With just days to go, the community is buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be an unforgettable celebration of creativity and collaboration.

Stay tuned for updates as we approach this remarkable event, and don’t miss your chance to witness the incredible talents of these young artists!
