Leaders Gather in Mount Gambier to Address Regional Issues

The Advertiser’s Bush Summit is set to take place in Mount Gambier on March 16, 2024, featuring South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas and key community leaders. This annual event brings together decision-makers and local residents to discuss critical issues impacting regional South Australia.

The summit aims to foster dialogue on significant challenges and opportunities for rural communities. Focus areas will include the diversification of South Australia’s regions, addressing environmental concerns such as algal blooms, and exploring the future of agriculture. These discussions will help shape policies that can be presented to both State and Federal Governments.

Key Participants and Themes

Alongside Premier Malinauskas, the summit will feature the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development, Clare Scriven, and Member for Barker, Tony Pasin, who will also address the attendees. They will be joined by notable figures from business and community sectors, including Peta Willmot, vice chair of Grain Producers South Australia, and Professor Mike Steer, executive director of the South Australian Research and Development Institute. Additionally, Jazmin Bingham, a Gomeroi youth advocate, will participate in panel discussions.

The Bush Summit is the second event in the 2025 National Bush Summit series, which began with the Australian Bush Summit in Broome. Following the Mount Gambier gathering, the series will continue to Toowoomba on August 25, Wagga Wagga on August 27, and Ballarat on August 29, before concluding in Darwin on September 1. The main event, featuring Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, will take place in Ballarat.

This summit provides a vital platform for rural communities to engage with policymakers and advocate for their needs. By addressing the pressing issues of regional South Australia, the event seeks to create actionable solutions that can lead to a brighter future for these communities.
