UPDATE: A large-scale search is currently underway for two men who went missing after their vehicle crashed into the Macdonald River overnight. The incident occurred near Settlers Rd in St Albans, approximately 20 km north of Wisemans Ferry, shortly before midnight on Wednesday.
As authorities continue their urgent efforts, one passenger—a man in his 20s—managed to escape from the wreckage and swam to safety. He was assessed by paramedics at the scene but did not require further treatment. However, the fate of the two other men in the vehicle remains uncertain as of Thursday morning.
The State Emergency Services (SES) and the NSW Rural Fire Service have mobilized resources for a comprehensive search of the area. The SES confirmed that while the Macdonald River is not currently flooding, it is being treated as a potential flood rescue situation due to heavy rain impacting the region. Over the past two days, Wisemans Ferry has recorded more than 50 mm of rain, with forecasts indicating more significant rainfall is expected to continue.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Hawkesbury Police or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000. As search efforts intensify, the community remains hopeful for the safe return of the missing men.
Stay tuned for updates as this developing situation unfolds.
