More than 400 high school students explored the vibrant campus of Curtin University in Kalgoorlie-Boulder during its recent Open Day. This event provided students with hands-on activities and workshops designed to ignite their aspirations for higher education and career opportunities.

The Open Day, held on March 15, 2024, offered a comprehensive overview of university life. Participants had the chance to engage in various interactive sessions that showcased different fields of study, from engineering and health sciences to arts and business. These activities were tailored to provide insights into what students can expect as they transition from high school to university.

One of the key features of the event was the opportunity for students to interact with current university students and faculty members. This interaction allowed prospective students to ask questions and gain valuable advice about navigating their educational journeys. Dr. Emily Thomson, the event coordinator, emphasized the importance of such engagements, stating, “Our goal is to create an inviting atmosphere where students feel encouraged to explore their options and envision their futures.”

In addition to workshops, the Open Day included campus tours, which highlighted the university’s facilities and resources. Participants were able to visit laboratories, libraries, and study areas, experiencing firsthand the environment they might soon join. Such experiences can be pivotal in helping students make informed decisions about their educational paths.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Many students expressed excitement about the possibilities that higher education can offer, with several noting that the event had clarified their ambitions. The engagement with faculty and peers served to demystify the university experience, making it feel more accessible.

The Open Day at Curtin University not only aimed to inform but also to inspire. As education continues to evolve, events like this play a crucial role in bridging the gap between secondary and tertiary education, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.

Overall, the successful turnout and enthusiastic participation highlighted the growing interest in higher education among young people in the region. With events like the Open Day, Curtin University reinforces its commitment to fostering educational aspirations and supporting the next generation of scholars and professionals.
