Goulburn Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Assault on Friday

URGENT UPDATE: A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder following a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a 55-year-old man at a residence on Cathcart Street, Goulburn. This shocking development occurred after police responded to a welfare check on August 22, 2023, at approximately 8:20 AM.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim with significant facial injuries, prompting immediate action. The victim was a resident of the Cathcart Street home where the incident unfolded. Detective Inspector Ben Bowles confirmed that a crime scene was established, leading to an extensive investigation in collaboration with the state homicide squad.

As part of the investigation, police apprehended the suspect just before 7 PM the same day while he was walking on View Street. He was promptly taken to Goulburn Police Station and charged with murder. The man has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear at Parramatta Local Court on August 23.

Detectives remained on-site at the Cathcart Street residence throughout the day Friday and returned on Saturday to continue their investigation. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about safety and crime in the area, leaving the community in shock.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. As the situation develops, community members are left to grapple with the tragic loss of life and the serious charges now facing the suspect.
