Young Father Battles Terminal Cancer, Launches Urgent Fundraiser

URGENT UPDATE: Corey Fawcett, a 34-year-old father from Howlong, Australia, is fighting against terminal brain cancer after being diagnosed just last month. With an average life expectancy of 12 to 18 months, Fawcett is determined not to be another statistic.

Last month, he experienced severe migraines, leading to two visits to the Albury Hospital emergency department within just three days. A CT scan revealed a brain tumor, and within a week, he underwent surgery in Melbourne to remove it. Unfortunately, the diagnosis confirmed that the tumor is terminal, identified as either Stage 4 Glioblastoma or Stage 4 Astrocytoma.

“It was a shock to both me and my family to hear the diagnosis,” Fawcett stated. “Every day life has been turned upside down.” He has had to step away from work, unable to drive or perform daily tasks, requiring him to relearn to use his hand, arm, foot, and leg.

Corey’s family has rallied around him, putting their own lives on hold to support him through medical appointments and rehabilitation. In response to his challenging situation, they have created a GoFundMe campaign to alleviate financial burdens. “I’m not eligible for any government assistance, and I don’t have any sick leave. Any help will go towards my mortgage, bills, travel, and treatment,” he explained.

The fundraiser has already garnered an outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and even strangers. “Difficult times bring family closer, and mine are a very close family,” he said. “Friends have been contacting me and visiting me through their busy lives, which has meant a lot.”

Despite the daunting diagnosis, Fawcett refuses to give up hope. “With my age, health, and the success of my surgery in my favor, I am determined to fight as hard as I can,” he said. He remains focused on continuing to enjoy life, including activities he loves like fishing and spending time with his dog and family.

“I’m stubborn and determined to live, and I’m fighting this, not dying tomorrow,” Fawcett declared.

As the community rallies around Corey, the urgency of his situation highlights the critical need for support and awareness for those battling similar challenges. For those wishing to contribute, the GoFundMe link is available for donations to assist with his ongoing treatment and living expenses.

Stay tuned for updates on Corey Fawcett’s journey and how the community continues to support him in this challenging time.
