More than 400 high school students engaged in a vibrant exploration of university life during the Open Day at Curtin University in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The event, held on March 10, 2024, provided students with hands-on activities and workshops designed to ignite their enthusiasm for higher education.

Participants had the opportunity to interact with university staff and current students, gaining insights into various academic programs. The day was structured to showcase the diverse range of courses available at Curtin University, from engineering to arts, emphasizing the practical applications of their studies.

Students participated in interactive sessions, which included science experiments, creative arts projects, and technology demonstrations. These activities aimed to inspire attendees to consider their future paths and the possibilities that higher education can offer. Many students expressed excitement about the prospect of pursuing their academic interests further.

The Open Day also featured presentations from faculty members, who outlined the benefits of attending Curtin University. They highlighted the institution’s commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages personal growth and career readiness. According to Dr. Emily Thompson, the event organizer and head of student recruitment, “Our goal is to make students aware of the opportunities available to them and to help them envision their futures beyond high school.”

In addition to academic offerings, the event showcased student support services, including counseling, tutoring, and career guidance. This holistic approach aims to ensure that students feel prepared for the transition to university life, both academically and personally.

Feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed that the hands-on nature of the activities made the experience engaging and informative. One student, Jessica Nguyen, noted, “I loved the science demos. They made me think about what I could study and what career I might want to pursue.”

The Open Day at Curtin University serves as a critical platform for high school students to explore their academic interests and plan for their futures. With ongoing support and engagement initiatives, Curtin aims to continue inspiring the next generation of students. The success of this event underscores the importance of providing accessible pathways to higher education, fostering aspirations, and nurturing talent within the community.
