Champion mare Via Sistina made a stunning return to the racetrack, continuing her legacy with a victory in the Group 1 $1 million Winx Stakes (1400m) held on August 19, 2023. This win marks her second consecutive triumph in this prestigious event, reinforcing her status as a leading competitor in Australian horse racing.

Historic Performance in Sydney

Competing against a field of formidable rivals at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse, Via Sistina demonstrated her exceptional speed and stamina. With a commanding performance, she crossed the finish line first, echoing the success she achieved in the previous year’s edition of the race.

The victory not only highlights Via Sistina’s remarkable talent but also sets a milestone in her career, as she becomes one of the few horses to win the Winx Stakes in consecutive years. Her time of 1:20.45 for the 1400-meter distance showcases her elite racing capabilities.

Trainer’s Insight and Future Plans

Trainer Chris Waller, a prominent figure in the racing community, expressed his pride in Via Sistina’s performance, stating, “She has come back stronger and more determined. This win sets her up perfectly for the rest of the spring racing season.” Waller’s strategic planning indicates that Via Sistina is set to compete in more high-stakes events, building anticipation among her supporters.

The impressive return from Via Sistina not only captivates fans but also reinforces the significance of the Winx Stakes in the racing calendar. Named after the legendary mare Winx, who won the race four times, this event continues to attract elite competitors and significant prize money.

As Via Sistina prepares for her upcoming races, the equestrian community eagerly awaits her next move, hoping to witness further record-breaking performances from this outstanding mare. With her recent victory, she is clearly a horse to watch in the coming months, as she aims to solidify her legacy in the sport.
