Fitzroy Crossing Police Charge Woman with 100L Wine Smuggling

Fitzroy Crossing Police have charged a 53-year-old woman with breaching the Liquor Control Act.

URGENT UPDATE: A 53-year-old woman has been charged with sly grogging after Fitzroy Crossing police discovered her with over 100 litres of wine during a traffic stop. This incident occurred at 9:15 AM on August 20, 2023, on the Great Northern Highway, raising serious concerns about illegal alcohol trafficking in the area.

During the search of her vehicle, officers found two plastic tubs containing 50 two-litre casks of wine, valued at approximately $10,000. Authorities suspect that this substantial quantity of alcohol was intended for unlawful sale in the central Kimberley area.

“Fitzroy Crossing police are always working to target sly groggers,” stated Sgt. Jody Worthington of Fitzroy Crossing police. “This latest seizure will help keep families safe by preventing the kind of violence we know occurs when illegal alcohol is smuggled into town.”

The woman is set to appear in the Fitzroy Crossing Magistrates Court in September. Police are urging the community to report any information regarding similar offenses by contacting local authorities or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or via their website.

This incident highlights the ongoing battle against illegal liquor distribution in Fitzroy Crossing, a critical issue affecting community safety. As the situation develops, local authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to curb such activities, ensuring that families in the region are protected from the dangers associated with illegal alcohol trade.
