Epping Residents Demand Urgent Action on Unsafe Intersection

URGENT UPDATE: Epping residents are sounding the alarm over safety concerns at the intersection of Maserati Drive and Findon Road. A local advocacy group, Better Deal Whittlesea (BDW), warns that it is “only a matter of time” before serious accidents occur at this dangerous crossing.

In a startling poll conducted by BDW, 90 percent of respondents reported feeling unsafe while driving through the intersection. This alarming statistic highlights the urgency of the situation as residents recount frequent near misses and crashes.

In response to growing concerns, BDW has launched a petition, calling on Whittlesea council to pressure the state government to declare Findon Road a major arterial road. The petition aims to advocate for immediate traffic safety measures at Maserati Drive and a long-term upgrade for Findon Road to accommodate increasing traffic volumes.

“While traffic lights were installed here in 2021 to improve pedestrian safety, the ongoing road safety issues continue to pose a significant threat,” stated BDW founding leader Nick Brain in a recent Facebook post.

In just over a week, more than 285 residents have signed the petition, and that number is rapidly climbing. A recent council traffic study confirmed the safety risks and congestion issues along Findon Road, pinpointing the Maserati Drive intersection as a critical problem area.

At a recent council meeting, councillor David Lenberg expressed strong support for the petition, stating, “I’ll be out over the next coming weeks knocking on doors to get support.” His commitment underlines the urgency felt by the community.

Residents argue that the existing traffic lights have done little to alleviate the dangers at Maserati Drive. The BDW shared on social media, “Another day, another accident,” encapsulating the frustration of those living in the area.

Other parts of Findon Road are also under severe strain, with locals insisting that the road is no longer fit for purpose. A state government spokesperson informed Star Weekly that no formal comment could be made until Whittlesea council formally raises the issue.

BDW is urging more residents to join the cause by signing the petition at www.change.org/fixfindonrd. “Every signature helps build momentum,” BDW emphasized in an online post. “Enough is enough – Findon Road and Maserati Drive must be fixed.”

The situation at Maserati Drive and Findon Road is rapidly developing, and community action is crucial in pushing for needed changes. Residents are making their voices heard, and the call for urgent intervention is growing louder.
