BREAKING: A devastating bus crash in Stonehaven has claimed the life of 12-year-old Milla Killeen, a Year Seven student at Christian College Geelong, as authorities confirm serious injuries to several others involved in the incident.
The tragic accident occurred on August 27, when the bus Milla was on reportedly rolled while en route to school. This heartbreaking loss has left the regional school community in mourning, as they remember Milla for her “beautiful personal qualities, her vibrancy, and infectious personality,” according to principal Dr. Mathilda Joubert.
Dr. Joubert described Milla’s passing as an “unimaginable loss,” stating, “In our deep grief, we are also coming together as a community to support one another, drawing strength from God and the care and compassion that Milla herself demonstrated to others.” Milla was not only known for her kindness and warmth but also as a talented basketball player who recently competed in the state championships.
Currently, one student remains in serious but stable condition at The Royal Children’s Hospital, while thirteen others are being treated at University Hospital Geelong, all in stable condition. The bus driver, a 76-year-old man, was hospitalized but has since been released.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lineham reported that the bus allegedly failed to negotiate a left-hand bend at the intersection of Hamilton Highway and Friend In Hand Road. “The scene was particularly confronting for first responders because it involved children,” he said. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation, including awaiting results from drug and alcohol tests administered to the driver.
Despite the bus being equipped with seatbelts, it remains unclear whether the children were wearing them at the time of the crash. The community is rallying together in support, with many expressing their condolences and sharing memories of the vibrant young girl who touched so many lives.
As this tragic story develops, the focus shifts to the ongoing support for the victims and their families, as well as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
