Unique 1930s Home in Oaks Estate Draws Significant Interest

A distinctive home from the 1930s is drawing considerable attention as it hits the market in Oaks Estate, located on the border of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). The property at 9 River Street is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house boasting a spacious backyard and charming timber floors, showcasing its nearly 90-year history.

The house features eye-catching brickwork and a bright yellow accent wall, contributing to its inviting atmosphere. The wooden and brick kitchen stands out as a focal point, with its unique design attracting potential buyers. According to selling agent Greg Ward, who is marketing the property with his sister and business partner Jen Ward, over 25 interested parties have already toured the home.

Strikingly, many of these buyers prefer to maintain the house’s original charm rather than undertake renovations, a trend not commonly seen with properties of this age. “People appreciate the character and what it is. No one is looking to renovate,” said Mr. Ward, highlighting the home’s well-maintained condition. The current owners have cared for the property for more than three decades, and with their adult children having moved out, they are now looking to downsize.

Rarity of Listings and Local Interest

Houses in Oaks Estate are not frequently available, with only four listings at the time of writing, making them challenging to sell. Yet, according to Mr. Ward, the unique characteristics of 9 River Street have helped it stand out in the market. Much of the interest has come from residents of nearby Queanbeyan, which, while in New South Wales (NSW), is vital for Oaks Estate residents for various services, including shopping and healthcare.

The property is set to be auctioned on September 2, 2023, with a price guide of AUD 900,000. As the auction date approaches, the excitement around this charming home continues to grow, revealing a community eager to preserve the character of their neighborhood while adapting to modern living.

This unique property not only reflects the architectural style of its era but also embodies the personal history of its current owners, making it a special offering in today’s real estate market.
