Urgent: Firefighters Battle Blaze in Spearwood, Avoid Rockingham Road

UPDATE: A significant structure fire erupted in Spearwood, prompting urgent warnings for motorists to avoid Rockingham Road. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) responded rapidly at 4:36 PM today, October 23, 2023, to combat the blaze near the intersection of Coleville Crescent.

Just after 5:30 PM, DFES confirmed that the fire has been extinguished, but firefighting crews remain active in the area, conducting patrols and mopping up any remaining hotspots. As of 6:00 PM, portions of Rockingham Road between Spearwood Avenue and Lancaster Street are still closed to traffic.

Authorities urge residents in the vicinity to stay indoors and secure windows and doors to minimize exposure to smoke and fumes. “People should stay away from the area,” DFES cautioned in a statement. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and navigate carefully around the closure.

Police have also been deployed to the scene, working in coordination with fire crews. Currently, there are no reported injuries, but the situation remains under close monitoring.
