Opera One Update Enhances Tab Management for iOS Users

Opera has announced a significant update to its iOS browser, Opera One, focusing on enhancing tab management capabilities. The update introduces multiple features designed to improve how users view, search, and manage tabs, making it easier for individuals to navigate their browsing experience.

New Features for a Streamlined Experience

This update is particularly beneficial for users who tend to keep multiple tabs open. According to Opera’s official blog, the enhancements in Opera One allow it to outperform both Safari and Chrome in tab management. The redesigned system aims to bring desktop-style tab organization to mobile devices, enhancing usability for iOS users.

One of the standout features is the introduction of two new tab layouts: Grid and List views. Users can now choose between these layouts based on their preferences. The grid layout provides a balanced overview, enabling users to see several tabs simultaneously with clear visual previews. In contrast, the list layout offers a more compact view, making it easier to manage hundreds of tabs without feeling overwhelmed. Users can switch between these layouts by tapping the leftmost icon in the bottom bar of the tab gallery.

Organizing Tabs with Ease

Another key enhancement is the tab grouping feature, which allows users to organize tabs into customizable groups. This feature is ideal for activities such as planning trips, managing work tasks, or comparing products online. To create a group, users can long-press a tab, select the desired tabs, and add them to a new, named, and color-coded group. This functionality is also available on iPads, where it mirrors the Tab Islands feature found on desktops, ensuring a consistent experience across Apple devices.

For users searching for specific tabs, Opera One has introduced a new search function. A search icon located in the tab gallery’s bottom bar enables users to quickly locate a tab by typing in a keyword related to its title or URL. This feature is particularly useful for those managing a large number of open tabs.

The user interface has also been revamped for easier navigation. The tab gallery now allows for intuitive swiping between icons at the top of the screen, providing quick access to regular tabs, private mode, and synced tabs from other devices. Additionally, users can customize the menu by hiding or rearranging options to suit their individual preferences.

In a noteworthy addition, the update integrates Aria, Opera’s free AI companion, into the bottom bar of the browser. While Aria does not possess the same agentic capabilities as the AI that powers Opera’s Neon browser, it selects the most suitable large language model for a user’s query, enhancing the overall browsing experience.

This update is expected to attract a significant number of iOS users who prefer to keep their tabs open for extended periods. With its focus on improving tab management, Opera One is positioning itself as a compelling alternative to other major browsers in the market.
