Eurobodalla Opens Nominations for 2025 Local Hero Award

Community members in Eurobodalla are encouraged to nominate local heroes for the 2025 Local Hero Award, recognizing individuals who embody the spirit of compassion and resilience. Nominations opened recently, allowing residents to celebrate those who significantly contribute to their neighborhoods and the wider community.

According to Mayor Mathew Hatcher, the Local Hero Award serves as a platform to highlight inspiring stories from across the shire. “The Local Hero Award is about sharing inspiring stories from all over the shire and honouring those residents who make us proud to live here,” said Cr Hatcher. This annual initiative, established in 2018, aims to foster community spirit and appreciation for individuals making a difference.

Last year’s award was jointly awarded to Jan Frikken and Maricel Ceniza, who were recognized for their commitment to promoting inclusion within Eurobodalla’s multicultural community. Their efforts exemplify the qualities that the Local Hero Award seeks to highlight, as Cr Hatcher noted, “Even though there might be many nominees, they all share qualities that bring us together.”

Nominations for the 2025 award are open until September 30. All nominees will receive an invitation to the Mayor’s Charity Ball scheduled for November, where the winner will be announced. This event not only celebrates the nominees but also raises funds for local charities, reinforcing the sense of community.

Residents can find the nomination form and detailed guidelines on the Eurobodalla Council’s Local Hero Award webpage. The initiative emphasizes the importance of recognizing and celebrating the contributions of local individuals who inspire others with their commitment to community service.

As Eurobodalla gears up for another year of honoring its local legends, the community’s collective effort reinforces the values of compassion, vision, and grit that define the region.
