Man Charged After Hostage Situation in Sydney House Fire

URGENT UPDATE: A man has been charged after a dramatic rescue from a burning house in Doonside, Sydney, where he allegedly held another man captive. The incident unfolded on Thursday morning, prompting swift action from NSW Police.

Authorities responded to reports of a heated argument and arrived to find a vehicle damaged outside the residence, with another one ablaze in the carport. Upon breaking down the door, police discovered a scene of chaos as flames engulfed the house. They managed to pull both men to safety amidst the fire.

The primary suspect, a 45-year-old man, has been refused bail and is set to appear in Blacktown Local Court on Monday. He faces serious charges, including detaining a person with intent to obtain an advantage, damage to property by fire, and destroying or damaging property. Authorities allege he was holding a 35-year-old man against his will inside the burning home.

Emergency services treated the older man for burns on his back, while the younger man was taken to the hospital for facial injuries. The scene was chaotic, with police needing assessment from paramedics as firefighters battled the blaze.

Witnesses reported a Jeep Wrangler with a smashed windscreen at the site, alongside a dog tied to a truck in distress. The emotional toll of the incident has raised concerns in the community.
