Bulldogs Face Double Injury Blow Ahead of NRL Finals Showdown

BREAKING: The Canterbury Bulldogs have suffered a devastating double injury blow just days before the NRL finals, losing key players in a 24-6 defeat to the Cronulla Sharks at Accor Stadium on Saturday night. Head coach Cameron Ciraldo remains optimistic, insisting the late-season slump will not define their playoff performance.

In a game that served as a final warm-up, both Bronson Xerri and Marcelo Montoya left the field injured and will miss the crucial qualifying final against the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park this Friday night. Xerri suffered a concussion, while Montoya was seen leaving on crutches due to an ankle injury.

Ciraldo acknowledged the urgency of the situation, stating, “It’s a totally different game once you get to finals.” His team has won only once in the last four matches, a narrow victory against a reserve-grade Penrith side. The Bulldogs, who dominated the league early in the season, need to find their footing quickly as they face a formidable Storm lineup missing key players Ryan Papenhuyzen and Jahrome Hughes.

Despite the loss, Ciraldo highlighted a positive takeaway from the match: strong early defense. However, the Bulldogs’ attacking strategy fell flat, with their only points coming through a remarkable 98-meter run by Enari Tuala after intercepting a kick from Nicho Hynes.

“I’m glad tonight’s over. I am glad we can get onto the next stage of the competition,” Ciraldo remarked, emphasizing the importance of shifting focus to the finals. “We weren’t anywhere near our best. That stuff happens when your mindset is slightly off.”

In contrast, the Sharks delivered a polished performance, fine-tuning their game ahead of their elimination final against the Sydney Roosters. Coach Craig Fitzgibbon praised his team’s consistency, noting they have now won seven of their last eight games. “It was a good hit out, that’s for sure,” Fitzgibbon said, highlighting the team’s readiness for the challenges ahead.

As the Bulldogs regroup and prepare for the finals, all eyes will be on AAMI Park this Friday night to see if they can overcome these setbacks and reclaim their early-season momentum. Fans eagerly await updates on Jacob Kiraz, who remains an outside chance of returning from a foot sprain for this critical match.

The stakes are high and the pressure is on as both teams aim to make their mark in the playoffs. Will the Bulldogs rise to the occasion, or will the Sharks continue their winning streak? Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
