Nina Dobrev and Shaun White have officially ended their engagement after four years of dating. The couple, who became engaged in October 2024, made the decision to part ways amicably, according to a source cited by People magazine. The source stated, “It was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another.”
The representatives for both the Vampire Diaries actress and the former Olympic snowboarder have yet to release an official comment regarding the split. The couple was last spotted together on August 31, 2025, in Los Angeles, where they were seen holding hands while running errands. However, Dobrev attended the Los Angeles premiere of Eternity on September 7, 2025, without her engagement ring, signaling a significant change in their relationship status.
In a notable gesture, Dobrev also removed the engagement announcement from the top of her Instagram account, a post that had remained pinned since White’s proposal. The shift in their social media presence highlights the seriousness of their recent decision.
Just months prior to their split, White expressed excitement about planning their wedding. In an interview with People magazine, he shared, “It’s very exciting to have new aspirations and new things that we’re going after together. It’s very humbling and very exciting, and she’s excited.” He noted that they were in the process of gathering advice from friends and family who had planned their own weddings, which added to the thrill of their upcoming chapter.
Reflecting on the planning process, White described it as a “fun” time, stating, “It’s like you took that next step and yeah, it’s just a fun sort of planning phase of life. Like, ‘What’s the next steps, and the next chapter and where do we want to be?'”
Dobrev previously recounted the emotions surrounding her engagement. In an interview with Vogue magazine, she revealed that when White proposed in New York City in late October, she was momentarily in shock. “I just froze and stared at him,” she recalled, before adding, “He said all the right things.”
Prior to her relationship with White, Dobrev was known for her involvement with Ian Somerhalder, her co-star from The Vampire Diaries. The recent split appears to mark the end of a significant chapter in both of their lives, leaving fans and followers to reflect on the couple’s journey together.
